Rich Boy - Rich Boy (Review)

Rich Boy
Rich Boy
[Interscope South Records/Zone4 Inc.]
Buy it from itunes

I was first introduced to Rich Boy 2 years ago. Back then I thought Rich Boy
was a big guy and I thought "Get To Poppin'" was produced by Timberland (it
was actually produced by Brian Kidd). The hype for Rich Boy has grown since
then, with no small help from "Throw Some D's" and Polow Da Don. Two years
later his album was finally released and frankly, it wasn't very good.
I understand why rappers still do tracks like "Good Things"- it's the third
single-slow jam staple 'for the ladies'. Did he need a two of those? If you
are hoping to hear more tracks like "Throw Some D's" or "Get To Poppin'" you
are out of luck, he doesn't even come close to sounding as hot on the rest
of the album.

The worst moment on the album comes with the first song "The Madness"
produced by Rich Boy. It sounds like a parody. I maybe would have got down
to this song 5 years ago. It is great that Rich Boy produces tracks, but
hide that stuff at the end of the album.

This may sound like a purely negative review but it's not. There are some
really great songs on here- I like about five of them; six if you can handle
"The Madness". 5 out of 16 is an OK ratio considering most 'good' rap albums
have around 7.

Rich Boy - Boy Looka Here (Video)

Couple of things I noticed about the production on the Rich Boy album.

1)I remember in '05 when I first heard "Get To Poppin" that Timberland produced the track, now it is being credited to Brian Kidd.

2)Polow Da Don co-produced "Throw Some D's" the track was actually done by Butta.

Friday Things

Right now it is all about "Role Models" with David Banner, but still not sure about the 9 minute track "Lets Get This Paper". Listen to 'The Prefix' over at The Fader.

Here is a rare video of Dirt Dog on Howard Stern back in ‘98, the day after his infamous Grammy speech.

Rich Boy Rap City Freestyle/Willy Joy and some

Rich Boy on Rap City yesterday (1/31) going over "This is Why I'm Hot"

I posted info on Willy Joy a while back and now he returns with a new remix. If you haven't yet grabbed his mix 'Flybynight, Vol. 1' you should. It is for sale at the Turn Table Lab for only 7 bucks. Willy Joy is also locking down some shows in Chicago right now, so keep up to date with his happenings over at his myspace page.

The Pack - At The Club (Willy Joy Remix) (YSI)/(Z-Share)

Back to Rich Boy for a second, Different Kitchen posted up the Rich Boy Remix, which I haven't stopped listening to since I heard it and another track called "Boy Looka Here" (also produced by Polow). Here is a Rick Boy interview from MTV Sucker Free.

Here is an interesting article written by Courtney Love about what music piracy really is..

Tyra Banks on being fat. Tyra is pretty honest here, and you gotta respect that.

Anyone interested in a Super Mario Firefox theme

Finally, according to HHNLive Ja Rule is set to appear in the next Saw movie due October 26, 2007. As a big fan of these movies at first I was less than thrilled, and then I read that he will be in the opening scene. Those familiar with these movies know what usually happens in the opening scene.

Rich Boy - Throw Some D's feat. Polow Da Don (Live on 106 and Park)

Rich Boy's album comes March 13th.

Watching this video you really get an idea how small Rich Boy is. The girls really go wild when he takes his jacket off, the ladies must really like small guys.

RealTalkNY was at the Rich Boy listening station last night with pictures and a video.

Sorry for the second video update today, I figured since they are both quality it would slide.

Kay Slay,Rich Boy Remix, Jay - Z and More

The above image is Kay Slay's attempt to maybe fool the RIAA, or at least throw them a curve ball. It also is the worst cover for a mixtape I have ever seen.

My friend Loren sent me the Rich Boy (Feat Lil' Jon, Andre 3000, Jim Jones, Murphy Lee, & The Game) - Throw Some D's (Remix) last night and you can grab it over at Che Sing the Cool right now.

Go to XXL to listen to the Curren$y ft. Lil Wayne “Dead Presidents Freestyle”. I think Curren$y might be the best weed carrier in the game right now. I am really looking forward to his record 'Music To Fly To".

Did anyone catch the Jay-Z's stalker on Dr. Phil yesterday? I will post a video as soon as I find it.

Jay-Z's Nets get $400M from Ex-Slave-Trade Co. Jigga what?

If you haven't been paying attention to what Polow Da Don has been doing, you should be. 2006 could be his year.

Didn't Diddy just have twins? What is he doing with Sienna Miller?

Rich Boy Cover Art and Info on the Fabolous Album

It took seeing this cover to remember how excited I am about this record dropping. If you haven't read it make sure you check out the interview I did with Rich Boy back in December.

I saw Rizoh also posted up this cover today over at the Rap Up.

Rich Boy will be preforming live on 106 and Park tomorrow (Jan 30th)

I am skeptical about everything I read about a new Fabolous album, but apparently Fabolous's album 'From Nothin To Something' will be dropping on March 27th. The first single "Return Of The Hustle" and features Swizz Beatz and produced by Just Blaze". Listen this track on his myspace page.

And finally, Meth is a really, really bad idea.

Talib Kweli and Madlib - Liberation

I rarely get into this side of rap, but I endorse the principle behind what Talib is doing here. Talib Kweli and producer Madlib have released their nine-song collaboration titled 'Liberation'. This release is available as a free download and with cover art via Rappcats.com. This concept succeeds and people that would have passed on this release will no doubt listen and might even really like it.

Spotted via Idolator

Talib Kweli isn't the only person who supports downloads, the creators of South Park have stated that they support episode downloading. I watched some of Season 8 yesterday, I really suggest the 'AWESOM-O' Episode.

Discobelle has a Rich Boy remix of 'Throw Some D's" with Rick Ross and The Game. This will be enough to hold me over until the Jim Jones verse gets added.

Lil Wayne - Complex Magazine Interview

On the infamous photo of he and Baby kissing:
”I don’t fault nobody for misunderstanding. I don’t understand a lot of shit. Baby walked in the crib one day and was like, ‘Everybody’s doing this black mob shit. When I see you niggas, this is what we’re gonna do.’ And that’s why you’ve probably got a picture of me because I stuck with everything that man said. But every nigga’s done that. I’ve done kissed [Juvenile and B.G.]. No homo. Pause.”
On Pharrell and the Clipse:
”I don’t see no fucking Clipse. This is a fucking legend you’re talking to right here. How many years them niggas been around? Who the fuck is Pharrell? Do you really respect him? That nigga wore BAPE and y’all thought he was weird. I wore it and y’all thought it was hot. What I gotta go in the store and say, ‘I like these colors but I can’t buy them because other rappers wore them?”
Source Complex Magazine:

I spoke with Rich Boy today and I asked him about Lil Wayne and Baby. He told me that he didn't want to speak on tradition and stuff, but they are not gay. I mean Al Capone got kissed, Tony Soprano kisses his son...We both agreed on two things though, Lil Wayne needs to stop saying "weezy fucking baby" and that he is the best rapper out right now. I will post more of the interview in a little bit.
