Lil Wayne - The Carter Files

My favorite mixtape/album of the year might be 'Lil Weezyana' so naturally I was excited when I saw that Raj Smoove & Lil Wayne just released a mixtape called 'The Carter Files'. The album is all throwback tracks that didn't make the first Carter record.

SLTGM Songs of The Year

The idea was kicked around to make a massive holiday mix with the best tracks of the year (which I think is still happening) with some other web sites. I know Palms Out, 33Jones, Analog Giant and Call Me Mickey all turned in mixes, with more to come.

I wasn't going to post this for a couple of reasons, the main one being I am not a DJ. I worked these together on Cool Edit and I did the best job I could. I am happy how it turned out because it isn't embarrassing and I was able to work in my favorite tracks of the year into a 15 minute mix...enjoy

Still Listen To Gangsta Music - Best of 2K6 in 15 minutes (YSI)/(Z-Share)

0. Gangsta Music/Money Maker Intro (vyle. bmore rmx)
1. Justin Timberlake Feat T.I. - My Love
2. Lil Wayne - Donks
3. Lil Wayne and Birdman - Stuntin' Like My Daddy
4. Pusha, Game and Dre - Chevy Ridin High
5. Rick Ross - Push it to the Limit
6. Lil Wayne - Pump That Bass
7. Camron Feat Lil Wayne - Touch it or Not

In case you haven't heard.
Nas scores his third No. 1 on The Billboard 200 this week with his eighth studio set, "Hip Hop Is Dead." The Def Jam effort moved 355,000 copies last week in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The rapper's last effort, "Street's Disciple," peaked at No. 5 on the chart. Nas' two other sets to take the summit were 1999's "I Am... The Autobiography" and 1996's "It Was Written."
Nice work Nasir.

Donald on Larry King Talking about Rosie

I really can't get enough of this Trump vs Rosie business. Did you hear about the other Trump trial taking place right now about the gigantic US flag? What a patriot.

Here is part two of the Donald Trump Larry King Interview.
My favorite part comes at the very end when Larry King is leading to commercial he says "coming up, the winner of the biggest looser" and in the background on a phone via his jet you hear Trump go "that would be Rosie"

Allen Iverson Feat Ma$e and Chris Rock - NBA (YSI)/(Z-Share)

A.I. puts in 22 in a loss and KG puts in 24 points with 14 rebounds in a loss, it makes me wonder what could have been. A bad week for Minnesota as the Vikes lose to the Pack and the Wolves lose to the Bucks.

Anyway, listening to Ma$e on this track and naming Jimmy the person of the year yesterday reminds me of the best on air interview I've ever heard. It is great to listen to Jimmy from a few years back.

Jim Jones Dissed By Camron???

I don' like to post rumors or get into too much of the "I heard on a radio station in Stanford this morning," but this seems like it might have some wheels. The rumor is that Camron was on Philly radio this morning talking about a new line of clothing he has coming out called 'Sam Cam' and he was asked about the whole Rucker incident. Cam responded out saying he heard in Harlem that Jim Jones was pissed about Jay-z bringing it up on Brooklyn High. I guess in response to this Jimmy said Cam made the Dips look soft at Rucker.

I will keep up with this story, regardless of whether or not this is true this is an issue that needs to be raised. The only time we have seen Cam in the past 6 months was for the "We Fly High" video. He just hasn't done anything (reminds me of Mark McGwire). Don't get me wrong I still think Cam is the best out in the group but it is just odd how at the height of the Jay-Z feud Camron just vanished.

SLTGM Person of The Year - Jim Jones

While Lil' Wayne is a close second it is impossible to not recognize the year that Capo has had. Going into the year Jimmy's notoriety was a distant third behind Cam and Juelz. The year that Jimmy has had is surprising, I thought the Diplomats had reached there peak with "The Whistle Song". I do content that 'Ballin' blew up without intention (dude has been talking behind his tracks since his first record) but I can't deny Jimmy has been doing it all right this year.

'Ballin' isn't going to stop either, Jimmy is in talk with VH1 to start a reality show called ‘Keeping Up With The Joneses’. There is no set date that the show will start.

Jimmy has dropped some great ethers on Jay-Z over the past year, but nothing holds a candle to what he had to say to Tony Yayo. The quote below was triggered by Tony yelling "booooring" backstage at Hot 97’s Back To School Bash. This line might just end up as the diss of the year.
I don’t know if he said that, but if that little nigga said that he need to get his money up cause I’m balling for real, you know what I’m talking about? It’s all aggressive competition to each his own, smell me? You dig? That nigga’s a immigrant. He’s a straight hater, he belong in little Haiti.
I'm not saying that Jimmy is G.O.A.T. or anything, but he had the best year in Hip Hop and might have claimed the King of New York crown. No matter how many copies it is alleged that 'Kingdom Come' sold Jimmy ruined all that with the single of the year "We Fly High".

I know people are going to disagree with all this, let me know via the comments. I over looked some big releases in 2007 yesterday, maybe I forgot about all the great things that Nasir did this year. Also, go vote on the side poll for album of the year on the left column.

Remember to send everyone a holiday greeting from Jim Jones.

SLTGM's most anticipated albums in 2007

I have posted a poll on the left sidebar for best album of 2006 (so go vote). I'm really not sure what I think the best record of they year is, still thinking about that. I know the best rapper of the year was Lil Wayne, but anyway. It seems that rap the last couple of years has always been about what is going to come out next year. Hip Hop isn't dead, it is just on life support right? Here is a quick run down of what to expect in 2007 from some of the bigger players in the game:

50 Cent - 'Before I Self Destruct' : Fif says this will be out in March and he will bring more of a classic R&B feel and show the "vulnerable side of his sensitive thug image". This doesn't sound good, if we get a whole album worth of tracks 17-20 from 'The Massacre' I won't be too enthused. Fif did report on Shade 45 that Ludacris, Jay-Z, Bun B, LG aka Luke Gray, Gillie Da Kid, Chamillionaire & Lil Scrappy are featured on the album. I would feel comfortable saying that Eminem and G-Unit (Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo) will make an appearance. On Shade 45 he also said he is shooting a video that should be out around January. In a recent interview with Carson Daily Fif said the album is 90% done and is working on finishing it with Dre.

Eminem - Untitled: A spokesperson for Eminem wouldn't even comment on whether Slim Shady will release a solo album in 2007. Akon has said that Eminem is in fact working on an album. I would guess that we will see a new Eminem album towards the end of next year, Em sure has a lot to talk about (rehab, divorce and death) and like he said on BET "I never said I was retired". With an Eminem release uncertain, his group D12 is on schedule to release 'The Ambition' this Spring. The ambition will feature the usual suspects and will have old unused verses from Proof.

Lil Wayne - 'The Carter 3': There hasn't been any information confirmed with regards to the Carter. I posted some speculation on 'The Carter 3' a while back that was all speculation and bits and pieces of things. This album will be a big one for Lil Wayne, if his next major label release contains the same qualities his recent mixtapes have there will need to be conversations about G.O.A.T had. These conversations will continue until 'The Carter 4' is released as the obligatory double album.

T.I. - 'T.I. vs T.I.P.': Like the 'Carter 3' most of the information about a new T.I. record is just speculation right now, but this is expected to come out next spring. Guests on this are rumored to include Young Dro, Ludacris, Rick Ross, The Game, B.G., Justin Timberlake. I would expect JT to lend a hand after the success of "My Love". The first single is rumored to be called "Layin' Da Trap" featuring Young Jeezy and vocals from John Mayer.

Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana - 'I Can't Feel My Face': Some sort of demo from this project leaked in 2006 and these two keep talking about collaborating on it. If this ever comes out I don't see why this won't be one of the best releases of the year.

Dr. Dre - 'Detox': "Detox' is quickly turning into the 'Chinese Democracy' of rap music. Dre protégé Bishop Lamont promised a release in September. I remember reading something like 5 years ago that 'Detox' was going to be accompanied by a movie and Denzel Washington was going to be in it (I kinda hope they still have plans for this). On the 'Re-Up' Stat Quo has a few lines about recording lines for the 'Detox LP', so who knows. I'm sure they are sitting on lots of tracks, maybe this will come out next winter. The way all these Aftermath releases are lining up seems like there could be a blitz of them next 4th quarter.

Of course there are other albums to expect in 2007.
Cam'ron - 'Shade of Black' (I'm sure the title will change and the record will be delayed, but first we have to actually have confirmation that Cam is still alive)
Juelz Santana - Title TBA
Rich Boy - Product of Tha Hustle (Expected to be released in March)
Paul Wall - 'Get Money Stay True'
will.i.am - Title TBA
Big Boi - Title TBA
Three Six Mafia - Title TBA (I want this one to be called 'Oscar Winners')
Timberland - 'Timberland Presents Shock Value' (guests on this are set to include Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, She Wants Revenge, Elton John and the Hives)
Young Joc - Title TBA

Lil Wayne cancels show because he won't give up his guns

Lil Wayne recently canceled a show in Philadelphia because the security at the venue insisted he give up his guns. Weezy told venue security he had a gun for his own protection and a concealed-carry permit. After they insisted on confiscating them, he feared they were setting him up for a shootout with a "long-standing rival" and cancelled the show.

He told Complex magazine:"
I know the n**ga I'm beefing with is out there, so when security at the show told me, 'We gonna search y'all,' it was like, 'Nah, we ain't goin' in there. That's a set up.' "(We said) 'Y'all can have your money back, and call me phony or whatever. I ain't scared, I'm saving my life.
I agree with this move- but Wayne will be taking lots of heat for over this. He is obviously talking about his beef with Gillie. I wouldn't want to walk into this situation. Maybe Wayne should stop beefing with dudes...

On a totally different note, here is "Weird Al"'s interview with Kevin Federline. Also, I know you don't want to miss K-Fed wrestle John Cena.

I would be mad and want to beat up someone like John Cena if my wife was cheating on me with J.R. Rotem. For the record, I guess J.R. Rotem also was a little involved with Paris while he was working on her album too.

Mims - This Is Why I'm Hot (Video)

It seems like a day full of video posts comes in spurts, hope it ain't too much of a problem.

Idolator has a nice rundown of sounscan this week, basically Jeezy debuted at #1 and sold around 352,000 copies, Ghostface also fell to #71 or something like that. Remember, that doesn't actually mean that Jeezy sold that many records. I should mention that Tyrese put up massive numbers selling 116,000 first week. Does this make Tyrese G.O.A.T? Maybe I should revisit my year end list.

Here is a video of Kelly Ripa doing the Chicken Noodle Soup (1:05 mark) it isn't as funny as when Tom Cruise did his Young Joc impersonation.

Speaking of Young Joc, Ian over at Different Kitchen posted a song with Sunny Valentine that he said reminds him of "This Is Why I'm Hot"...see it all being tied together.

Jay - Z

This picture was taken from Jimmy's myspace page (more on the camel below).

If you haven't heard T.I. has a new song called "Where They At" grab it over at Discobelle or Different Kitchen. It is from the new Grand Hustle compilation 'In The Streetz Vol. 4'. TIP has had quite the year and it seems right that we get one more banger from him. Even Pitchfork had to recognize putting "What You Know" and "My Love" in their top 3 songs of the year. The list of course has its flaws, but putting T.I. in the top 3 twice isn't one of them, Idolator has a breakdown of the good the bad and the ugly of the Pitchfork list.

What Jay-Z record did Source Magazine actually listen to when giving it 4.5 mics?

Here is a video taken from the Jay-Z show at Radio City where he did all the 'Reasonable Doubt' tracks.

Nuggets - Knicks - Brawlinnnn

I know this video is all over the place and has been since Saturday night. Here are the facts and what we learned:
  1. Melo is by no means gangta, he hit and ran. First he runs to the other free throw line and hides behind players and then goes away into the stands with fans.
  2. Nate Robinson on the other hand is, he is 5'9 and gave J.R. Smith some.
The Nuggets better hope that they can get AI because the only real gangsta on that team is K-Mart.

I hope Isiah gets the biggest punishment for this, but he won't. He should get fired, make quick work of him. Here is one last image of Melo being a real hardbody.

Everybody in Minnesota is just curious how this will affect the AI to Denver deal that was being talked about Saturday morning. David Aldridge wrote:
A league spokesman said last night that while there was no specific language in the collective-bargaining agreement that would bar a team with suspended players from making trades, the league would likely have to review any potential deal involving a player on its suspended list.

The Nuggets have been engaged in serious discussions with Philadelphia about Iverson, trying to broker a three-team deal that would allow them to move enough contracts to take Iverson's $17.1 million salary.

Meanwhile, the Sixers continued to talk yesterday with the Minnesota Timberwolves, who appear to be their next-best hope for rerouting Iverson.

SLTGM's Worst Album Covers of the Year

This was something I was going to save for a week or so, but since others have started to post their year end lists and such I had to jump in. I am going to run through these really quick and let you know what I dislike these covers. I am linking all these to Amazon so you can get a better look and maybe even buy the album. Don't judge a book by the cover, right? These are in no particular order, they are all bad.

Public Enemy - Rebirth of a Nation: This one is almost too easy, bad fonts, bad photoshop in front of some Cadillac's. Aren't PE supposed to be against SUV's and things?

Eminen Presents The Re-Up: Drawn by Eminem himself.

Method Man - 4:21 (The Day After): Personally, I don't like too many references to "4:20" let alone "4:21" so I start off not really liking this and then you add in a giant "4:21"

Lloyd Banks - Rotten Apple: Is Banks blue? Is the room he is blue? Is the New York City blue? What is going on?

Ying Yang Twins - Chemically Imbalanced: Another thing I am not a fan of is the ying yang, and that is all I really see when looking at this cover. I am not even paying attention to the sun rays shooting out of the ying yang.

Flavor Flav - Hollywood: Not too much should be expected out of Flavor Flav. Although, I would expect if the album was called "Hollywood" he would actually be above Hollywood not the NYC skyline pre 2001.

2Pac - Pac's Life: 2Pac has actually turned into a cloud on this cover. Not only have they run out of things to put behind Pac's voice but there are no more pictures left.

Ice T - Gangsta Rap: Either the best cover of the year or the worst, I'm not sure for obvious reasons.

KRS One - Life
: To be honest, I didn't actually know he had an album out this year. I just thought Beyonce was too easy of a target and I knew that KRS would have a horrible cover. The mic in the streets is a great idea, but that looks more like a sidewalk.

Ludacris - Release Therapy: If the hair cut wasn't bad enough, what is that brown looking wall that takes up over half the cover.

Them Jeans

I wanted to just post the "We Fly High" remix by Los Angeles DJ Them Jeans and then was pointed to the "Sex in the Kitchen" Remix, so now both are here to download. You can become friends with Them Jeans on myspace, but if you want to listen to some more songs visit the non myspace web site.

Lil Waynes 'Lil Weezyana'

Two albums/mixtapes came out recently. The albums share a lot of the same qualities, which makes them easy to compare. I'm talking about the Eminem's 'Re-Up' and Lil Waynes 'Lil Weezyana'. These mixtapes are meant to serve one purpose- introduce the next wave of young stars on their respective labels. For Eminem, his job is to hype up Obie, Ca$his, Bobby Creekwater, D12, and all of G-Unit (did I forget anyone?). Lil Wayne is working on Curren$y, Mack Man, Baby Boy and Poca the Babygirl. One of these albums works and one doesn't. One of them you can download legally and free and one you can't. One of these is one of my favorite records of the year and one should be sitting in my recycle bin.

'Lil Weezyana' doesn't even come close to sounding like a gateway to the new artists on Young Money, it sounds like a Lil Wayne record. All the people on it sound great complementing Wayne, even the track "Secret Weapon" which I think is this Poca the Babygirl. If you hate Wayne don't take it from me, I am making the campaign that Wayne is currently the best out. Like I have said before, I don't care what the man does and what he puts in his mouth (I'm talking drugs). He is crazy on a different level, I am still thinking about this birthday party that was shown on BET the other night. Wayne is one strange dude, but it's all good. He has Wayne has "Fear God" tattooed on his eyelids. Enough said.

It is undeniable at this point that the way Lil Wayne hiccups out verses and strings it all together is worthy of G.O.A.T. I was listening to 'Lil Weezyana' last night and there was a line that made me go back and listen again. It went something like this "I feed the bitch grapes/make her crepes/if you don't know that is French pancakes" and then he went on and made some attempt at some French. Stupéfiant!

Again, you can download the entire record for free over at Young Money's official web site and if you haven't you should. Here are three tracks from the record:

Here is another DJ mix from Vancouver from Chuck Dollersign. While at it, I will use that as another mention of Christian Flores who has been sending in mixes here from the start. Keep sending them in, this is the second new mix in the last week that I have listened to and has made me want to keep listening (Willy Joy is the other). I can never hate on anyone that can work in a Lil Jon song and Dolly Parton within 10 minutes of each other. He was right in his explanation to me, he said "It's only 20 minutes long and takes a minute or two to heat up, but once it gets going it catches fire" Not saying the first 2 minutes are not good, they just really caught me by surprise. Chuck is also a writter for Only Magazine, which features some really great interviews by Chuck.

Here is the mix, I don't have a tracklisting to post. I was going to work on one but there is some times where it sounds like 3 or 4 songs are playing at the same time. Here are all the usual formats.

1. "Miss Sexy" (Scott Storch) - 3:52
2. "No Problem" (Timbaland, S.G. Jarard) - 3:19

4. "How You Been?" (featuring Jamie Foxx) (G. Thompson, Halle Berry) - 3:01
5. "Like That" (Scott Storch) - 4:43
6. "Around" (Cee-Lo, Halle Berry) - 3:22
7. "Lazy" (featuring Lupe Fiasco) (J. Crew Productions, Kundei Supormorgei) - 3:00

12. "Singing To You (G. Thompson, Halle Berry) - 5:07
13. "Go Left (Bonus Track)" (featuring Bun B) (Bun B, Timbaland) - 3:50

I can't get enough of the "Leather So Soft" video. If you haven't watched it yet, it is a must. Also the new Ozone Magazine cover is something else, Baby and Wayne on the "Sex Issue"...nuff said. "Leather So Soft" is easily it is the best music video of the year. Did anyone see Lil' Wayne's birthday party last night on BET?

Nas was on Hot 97 this morning, it was funny to listen to. He had some things to say about Jimmy and Wanye, guess which is about who? These are not direct quotes.

"No New York dude with a perm could ever say nothing to me"

"If I see a New York dude kiss another New York dude, I'm moving to Russia."

You also hear him laughing when Miss Jones calls Jay a camel, always funny to call Jay a camel.

Lil Wayne and Baby update!!! Wayne and his guitar.

These two items really have me laughing.

First, does anyone think this is funny?

also...If you like me were wondering what Wayne would look like playing a guitar you now will know. Lil Wayne and his guitar skills are heavily featured in the video for "Leather So Soft." Make sure you watch the end of the video where Dwayne is sitting on a small amp maybe listening to an ipod while picking away. I can't tell if it is supposed to be funny that Wayne is playing guitar, it is just too much as far as I'm concerned. It is all too weird.

Myspace Massacre

I suggest you read this article from XXL on how the World Wide Web has changed the rap game, or at least the music game.

There are lots of debates about this subject, both good and bad.

It was just yesterday that Karen O's (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) very private home demos made their way onto the internet. This has been a hot topic on the internet, but if you don't frequent the type of sites whose readers have claimed these demos are the "the equivalent of Paris Hilton's sex tape", you might not have heard.

The story goes something like this: A suitcase that Tv On The Radio guitarist Dave Sitek left in his old apartment, the suitcase was sorted through and this was found inside it. The person who found it was going to give it to a friend and then decided to make mp3's of it first. He then posted it on the internet. Turns out this whole thing has kinda made TV On The Radio guitarist Dave Sitek go a little insane. Read his blog about the whole situation. First he goes nuts and then he takes it all back. A bit like Young Jeezy did this morning.

Anyway, back to the point. I don't know where I stand on this whole issue. It is obvious that downloading whole albums takes away from sales, but it also creates an interest and gives people the chance to hear music that they ordinarily wouldn't. The internet has created many new outlets for musicians both new and established to succeed. Everyone that downloaded the new Project Pat album wouldn't have actually gone out and bought it had they not downloaded it. People that didn't take the 15 dollar gamble and buy the record and just downloaded it might really like it (and then download the rest of his albums). What would Project Pat like more?

It's impossible to deny there has been a huge increase in interest in artists via the internet. As pointed out in the XXL article, Baby was on the radio the same evening a controversial photo ran of him and Wayne kissing.

Read that XXL article
, It brings up the point that the artists that acknowledge the possibilities internet has to offer and work with it are more likely to succeed. The game has changed and will continue to.

Young Jeezy on Hot 97

Jeezy was on Hot 97 this morning promoting his album that comes out today. During the interview he reached out to Nas after going off last week.

Part 1 (YSI)/(Z-Share)
Part 2 (YSI)/(Z-Share)
Part 3 (YSI)/(Z-Share)

Jeezy has also confirmed that there will collaborative album with Akon that will be similar to the 'Best of Both Worlds' records. In an interview with Wendy Williams Jeezy also said that he has problems with the promotions done for his new record. He said he doesn't blame Jay because he "knows his politics". Itt is pointless to blame Jay for lack of promotion like artists have in the past, it just seems like whining. It does raise this question, besides the internet world does anyone really know about the new Jeezy or the new Nas album? Seems really quiet out there.

Dame Dash Responds to Jay - Z

"If he was talking about me, I would be disappointed,' Dash says about Jigga's track 'Lost One."

While Jay hasn't come forward to say that the first verse 'Lost One' is about Dame Dash, it's thought of that he is talking about the Roc-A-Fella breakup. He raps: "I heard muthafuckers saying they made Hov/ Made Hov say, 'OK, so make another Hov'/ N---as wasn't playing they day role/ So we parted ways like Ben and J. Lo."
"Me and Jay did too much together for me to have beef with him, If he was talking about me, I would be disappointed. I wish he would take me aside and tell me. That's what grown men do. We done so much, for me to have beef with him would be crazy. It would make everything I did look corny. ... Guys like us don't talk about other guys on a track. We pull each other to the side and speak."
Of course this contradicts Dame's actions, but he explains; he says Jimmy never asked if he could use his vocals for the track 'Kingdom Done'.
“To be honest I didn’t know that that song was gonna be completed. Months before I did a skit for his album and I just basically said that everyone should know me and Jimmy have known each other for a long time and that’s basically it.
In last month's issue of XXL Magazine, Jay addressed the split by saying:
"At the end of the day, when I look around and I know I'm on the side of right or what I believe is right in my heart ... sometimes you think you're doing right but you're not. But what you believe to be right in your heart, that's your truths. Then certain things happen that go even further then that, and you know you was right. The way people carry themselves after, it's like, 'Wow.' I wouldn't have did that. [He laughs.] A true friend wouldn't have done that."
Dame also described the Roc-A-Fella breakup as being more personal than the loss of a partner.

Source mtv.com

He explains this further and discusses his newest business venture in an article with the Voice.

All this reflection on the friendship of Dame/Jay and the better days of the Roc comes at a perfect time to note this... Diamond Dallas Page has now included Rocawear in his lawsuit against Jay-Z for throwing up the Diamond. In the article DDP talks about a time in the 1998 NBA finals when Karl Malone threw up the Diamond Cutter sign, anyone remember this?

I'm sure most everyone has seen the 'Angry German Kid' video, I thought this edit was pretty funny.

Meet Britney's New Boyfriend

The difference between KFed and JR Rottem is?

JR is a 'super producer' who has worked on produced "Push It" by Rick Ross "SOS" by Rihanna, "Best Friend" by 50 Cent and "Whoa" by Lil Kim. I assume that this hot romance with Britney Spears began as he slaved over tracks for her new album.

The Superficial has pictures and here is his myspace if you really need a friend.

Still-Listen also has some autographed Cherish CD's and posters to give away. Just send an email here. I will email you back asking for your address if you won.

I thought that Cherish was actually one person, after looking at this picture and reading the bio I learned that there are 4 girls in the group. If you don't remember or know who Cherish is, their song“Do It To It" feat Sean Paul of YoungBloodZ was one of the highlights from the movie 'ATL'.

Attack of the Little People, Watch out Jay. Bow Wow Goes Off!

Bol over at XXL chimes in on the Lil Wayne/Jay-Z situation. As most of you know, for the most part I agree with what he is saying here. I like that the article starts with Bow Wow's quote on Jay.
"I’m not feeling it. All the hype, all the ass kissing, I’m not feeling it you know? It’s like, this is supposed to be the best rapper alive, and we’re getting this warmed over garbage.”
I know it really doesn't mean much that Bow Wow went at Jay, it is just funny. I agree with Brian Crawford, this interview might not be real. The interview is supposed to be from Ozone Magazine, you can read the whole thing over at Brian Crawford's web site. Bow Wow then has this to say about "Dig a Hole" the diss track on 'Kingdom Come' against the Dipset.
Yeah like, it was on that track Dig a Hole going at Dipset and all them cats. You know me and some industry *****s was chilling at JD crib or whatever, smoking the dro, sippin' you know how us grown folks do. And um, your boy Jay was there you know, just sweating bullets. I'm thinking, does this cat have to go to the bathroom? Seriously, cat looked like he was about to **** on himself, too much Taco Bell or something. Come to find out he's all worried about Cam and Jim Jones and all them *****s. Some King of New York right? Anyway, so he's asking everyone how can he can get at these *****s? So, I tell dude this, I'm like it ain't them you need to be worried about, it's the ***** Dame you know? I'm like why kill the puppet and leave Gippeto alive?
Gippeto, oh man Bow Wow.

Three Six Mafia - Stay Fly (Video)

I was listening to the new Project Pat album 'Crook by Da Book: The Fed Story' and it got me thinking about how much I was on "Stay Fly" last year. "Stay Fly" was easily one of the best thing about music in '05.

Speaking of music videos, here is a brilliant cover of "Schizophrenia" by Sonic Youth. Thought it might interest a few.

After 15,000 views on YouTube the pitch was made to Nike and GirlTalkTooMuch ended up with a check for $1,800. The New York Times wrote a little bit about it. Here is the video:

Lil Wayne : Clipse. Congress Theatre, Chicago, IL

I was tipped off to this by a someone in Chicago that Lil Wayne and Clipse have a show tonight in at the Congress Theatre.

Here is a ticketmaster link. Tickets are 50 bucks plus some and I was told that the sound in there is terrible. I would also say that there is a good chance that someone doesn't show up.

Here is some more info from the Chicago Reader.

I know rappers that don't get along play shows together all the time but this one could be interesting.

If anyone in the Chicago area is going please let me know.

Lil Wayne is playing the Orange Bowl with Hinder too.

Lil' Wayne Explains Jay-Z Comments

Here is more info on the item that created the most stir with regards to the rap beefs post from yesterday. These quotes by Wayne were first posted on All Hip Hop. This is all taken from a call that Lil' Wayne made to Hot 97 with DJ Absolut.

When asked to explain the comments made about Jay-Z, Wayne said:

“I think I speak for everybody when I say it’s not dead as long as I’m still dropping albums,”

He also said that the comments stem from a time last year when the Roc was going to sign Dwayne (see audio below):
“I want people to just look at it like that dude who came out of college that was supposed to get drafted by the #1 team, which was Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam. They passed on me and now I with a good team and a good coach and of course on every interview I’m gonna cut down the team that didn’t pick me."
Here is a segment from 'Dedication vol.1' where Dwayne Carter speaks on his deal and the Roc/Jay-Z option (YSI)/(Z-Share)

Wayne did not back down from saying he was better than Jay-Z:
"I'm better than this game, We could be having this conversation about any other person in this game. It was who I was asked about at this time. Yall trying to build a case on me. But I tell you what. If you build a case against me and take me to trial, I will beat it."

Did Jay buy 200,000 copies of his own album?

So, Mediatakeout.com is reporting that they received an anonymous email from someone that works at Def Jam saying the first week number that Jay put up were inflated by his own album sales. Now, I don't know about this. Here is the email that Mediatakeout received:
Just wanted to let you know that the "numbers" that Jay put up are probably fake. I work at Def Jam and everyone here knows that [Jay Z] bought more than 200,000 copies of the album himself. Ain't that some [EXPLETIVE]. I guess money really ain't a thing for [Jay Z].

He was all up on the BET Awards saying "Numbers don't lie." Fake [EXPLETIVE] [EXPLETIVE].
I really understand that you can't trust everything you read and I am not at all saying I believe it. Just worth mentioning, especially when you drop from 700K to 130K.

The Main Event - Rap Battles

Who is beefing with who these days? It is really getting harder and harder to keep up with what is going on. It reads kinda like a card at Summer Slam or Wrestlemania. I left out lots of little things, this isn't a comprehensive list. Is it all these beefs that make 'Hip Hop Dead' or is it albums like 'Kingdom Come' that are supposed to save the industry and don't?

Clipse/Pharrell vs Lil Wayne
Word is that Clipse were on Angie Martinez this morning and said Lil Wayne should change his name to "lil lip gloss". I'm not even going to weigh in on this one too much. Weezy is the best rapper in the game right now and Clipse just put out a over hyped sub par record that debuted at number 14 on soundscan. If you missed it, this started with Lil Wayne calling out Clipse/Pharrell in the new Complex Magazine.

G-Unit vs Diplomats (Developing)
Last night was the Mixtape awards in NYC and I guess when Mick Boogie won his award things got a little out of hand (not many details yet). This was taken from All Hip Hop:
Mick Boogie was one of several DJ's who had the brief chance to accept his award, before a scuffle that allegedly involved members affiliated with Dipset and G-Unit had attendees heading for the exits.
Diplomats vs Jay-Z/Nas
I don't really need to get into this one, you already know. I listened to the Nas record thinking there might be some jab at Jimmy or Cam. I couldn't really tell, I thought he might have said something on the first track but it was so boring I didn't want to even listen to it again.

There was a report that Jimmy was also on Angie Martinez's show this morning dropped on Jay this "That 82 percent drop is disgusting." It isn't going to be long before the Dips keep prodding Jay.

Fat Joe vs Everyone (Battle Royal Style)
Have you heard the interview from Power 99 where Joey Crack calls 50 Cent and Jay Z Uncle Tom's?

Young Jeezy vs Nas
The audio from Young Jeezy with Monie Love is all over the place this morning. Eskay from Nah Right gives a nice summary of what took place as well as a link to some audio.

Raekwon vs Jay-Z and LL vs Jay (Might as well be a handicap match Rae and LL vs Jay)
Rae released an track that was labeled a diss last week and he was also seen in this video speaking against President Carter. This battle doesn't draw my interest at all. Go get em Rae.

LL is pissed that Jay didn't help as much as he wanted with his last release. LL is going to leave Def Jam and most likely put out a record with...G-Unit.

Dwayne Carter vs Sean Carter
As much as I love the possibility of the Dipset/Jay beef going 100% this is the one I wait for. If you are the G.O.A.T you take everyone down, you shouldn't be afraid of no one. You can kiss your dad on the lips and say it is mob shit, it doesn't matter because you are the G.O.A.T. Cam tried to take the crown last winter and now it is time for Wayne. This started with Wayne saying straight up that he was "better than Jay-Z". I think this battle is going to heat up. No question about it. I also think Dwayne will have diarrhea from eating Jay-Z alive.

What did I miss?

Camron - Shade of Black

This news is taken from Wikipedia (which anyone can edit) and it most likely isn't real.

I do know that the release date schedules sent to me from Asylum state that his next record is to be called 'Shade of Black'. Here is what Wikipedia had to say about 'Shade of Black'
This album will see Cam'ron re-united with child hood friend and rhyming partner Ma$e, on a track called Children of the Corn, named after the group they were in with Big L and Cam'ron's cousin Bloodshed in the 90's. The album will feature production from The Runners, Cool & Dre, The Heatmakerz, The Alchemist, and Scott Storch. Juelz Santana and the whole Dipset crew are said to be on the album as well as Fat Joe, The Game, Lil' Wayne, Birdman, T.I., Cassidy, DMX, Trick Daddy, Damon Dash, Krayzie Bone, and a surprise appearance from Charli Baltimore.

The first single is "Weekend Girl". The 2nd single is rumored to be "You Must Not Know Bout Me".
There is also a list of "Confirmed Tracks"

* "Killa Season 2"
* "Harlem's Greatest"
* "Shade of Black"
* "Wish You Were Here"
* "Don't Push Me" (featuring The Game)
* "Coulda Been"
* "Weekend Girl"
* "I Could Care Less" (featuring Krayzie Bone)
* "Children of the Corn" (featuring Ma$e)
* "You Must Not Know 'Bout Me"
* "Cha Ching, Cha Ching"
* "No I Can’t" (featuring Juelz Santana & JR Writer) (Prod by Big Dev)

I guess the question you should ask isn't what is going to be on 'Shade of Black' or how long it will be delayed, but WHERE IN THE WORLD HAS CAM BEEN?

Nas - Responds To Carmen and Jim Jones

Yesterday Nasir was on the "Trey the Chocolate Jock Morning Jump-off" show on Chicago's Power 92. He responded/added to the Carmen mess. When Nasir was asked about the alleged closefisted punch he gave Carmen he said he wasn't going to even respond "because this is the type of person who is after only God knows what". He also said he doesn't even speak to Carmen, and when he does need to with regard to their daughter it all goes through an assistant.

When Nasir got off the air Carmen called up and said that she speaks often with Nas, and had last talked to him the day before the radio show. She also said that Nasir not only read the book, but helped her to outline the chapters. She also said that Nasir wanted her to add the part about not wanting to date Beyonce because of her breath.

Also in the new Complex Magazine (what is with this magazine) Nasir continued to sound off.

Nasir said in the interview that he was offered a president's job at Atlantic Records which would have made him Jim Jones' boss. He continued:
"I'm still his boss [laughs]. I am above him. Who's not above Jim Jones? I don't know any of his records and I'm not even being funny. Like I know he's got a record called Ballin. I hope it sells some records, but I swear to you I've never heard it."

Kingdome Come Sales Numers Week 2

More from Bob Lefsetz on Jay-Z/Soundcan and the record industry:
A fucking DISASTER!

According to hitsdailydouble, Jay-Z sold 133,146 records last week, a whopping drop of 81%.

In other words, ALL BETS ARE OFF!

Turns out the old paradigm of tie in with everybody, get on every TV show, there's no such thing as overexposure, is trumped by the TRULY old paradigm, as in YOU NEED A HIT! And Jay-Z just didn't deliver one.

Then again, playing the first week sales game has gotten us here. Where it's not about long term, not about building, not about careers, just about IMPACT! Shit, in a business of constant train-wrecks, where Britney Spears uncovers her pudenda for all to see, is it no wonder that NOBODY TAKES THE MUSIC BUSINESS SERIOUSLY ANYMORE?

We've devolved to the fifties, the early sixties at best. Where music was just fodder. To be consumed today and forgotten tomorrow. Shit, Jay-Z appears no different from Perry Como, a crooner sold out to the man overexposed on television.

Don't say it's sui generis, don't say you can't expand from Jay-Z.

Eminem's new album? A complete stiff. You know it is. The guy lost all his cred. From a peak of "8 Mile" to you wouldn't even stop to gape if you saw him at the mall.

But worse is Gwen Stefani. Oh, her record won't completely stiff, but WHO THE FUCK IS SHE?

Gwen as diva is like Little Leaguer as Major Leaguer. Gwen's appeal was girl-next-door, at best dressing up for fun. Now we're supposed to BELIEVE THIS SHIT?? Like she went from behind the Orange Curtain to London and suddenly became GLAMOROUS? Shit, the photos alone are enough to make you puke.

Who IS running this music business? Desperate men so out of touch with the public that they don't know what people want?

Sure, you can drive a hit up the chart, but you've got no career, no long term sales, it doesn't mean much, especially since it cost you so much to get there.

Let Clive Davis execute on this paradigm. He does it best. As for the rest of you, if you're not developing acts with cred, that people can BELIEVE IN, you're just driving head-on into the junk pile.

Lil Wayne - Complex Magazine Interview

On the infamous photo of he and Baby kissing:
”I don’t fault nobody for misunderstanding. I don’t understand a lot of shit. Baby walked in the crib one day and was like, ‘Everybody’s doing this black mob shit. When I see you niggas, this is what we’re gonna do.’ And that’s why you’ve probably got a picture of me because I stuck with everything that man said. But every nigga’s done that. I’ve done kissed [Juvenile and B.G.]. No homo. Pause.”
On Pharrell and the Clipse:
”I don’t see no fucking Clipse. This is a fucking legend you’re talking to right here. How many years them niggas been around? Who the fuck is Pharrell? Do you really respect him? That nigga wore BAPE and y’all thought he was weird. I wore it and y’all thought it was hot. What I gotta go in the store and say, ‘I like these colors but I can’t buy them because other rappers wore them?”
Source Complex Magazine:

I spoke with Rich Boy today and I asked him about Lil Wayne and Baby. He told me that he didn't want to speak on tradition and stuff, but they are not gay. I mean Al Capone got kissed, Tony Soprano kisses his son...We both agreed on two things though, Lil Wayne needs to stop saying "weezy fucking baby" and that he is the best rapper out right now. I will post more of the interview in a little bit.

"I'm Better Than Jay-Z" Lil Wayne

Happy 37th Sean Carter...

From MTV.com
Lil Wayne once said he was the "best rapper alive since the best rapper retired."

Well, with Jay-Z — the man Weezy once called his favorite MC — out of retirement (see "Jay-Z's 'Retirement' Is Finally Over: New Album Due In November"), Wayne said his stance has changed a bit. Lil Wayne has declared he's still the best — even if Hov is officially back on the playing field (see "The Making Of The Best: Lil Wayne Plots His Path To The Top").

"I'm better than him," Wayne said in the new issue of Complex magazine, which features the Cash Money Millionaire on the cover with Travis Barker. "I'm 24 years old. ... I'm 13 years deep with five albums and 10 million records sold."

In the article, Wayne also had some disparaging words for the Clipse, Pharrell Williams and and Young Buck, and said he took issue with Jay rapping about being "hip-hop's savior."

"I don't like what he's saying about how he had to come back because hip-hop's dead and we need him," Wayne said. "What the f--- do you mean? If anything it's reborn, so he's probably having a problem with that. You left on a good note, and all of the artists were saying, 'Yo, this is Jay's house. He's the best.' Now he comes back and still thinks it's his house. ... It's not your house anymore, and I'm better than you."

Jay recently clarified stamping himself "hip-hop's savior" on Kingdom Come as a play on words. "When I say 'saving hip-hop,' I don't mean like I'm standing on a mountain saving hip-hop," he said. "I mean, hip-hop needs events, it needs certain things to happen at certain times, like a spark of energy. Like a [Dr.] Dre album or those moments in time that you look back on when Snoop Dogg first came out, it was like 800,000 [albums sold] in the first week. Those events are needed in hip-hop, and it just felt like it was too far in between.

"My album, I believe, is just going to do its part," he continued. "It's not single-handedly going to save hip-hop. No one can do that. I don't have those delusions of grandeur."
I guess the only thing wrong with this article is that we know Dwayne is really 27 years old.
